NEW – Siasponge Series Pads, Discs, and Blocks – Part III

hand sandingIn Parts 1 and 2 of our triple play on the new Siasponge Series we detailed the many perks that go along with this innovative suite of abrasives. We prefaced, too, their state-of-the-art foam technology, color coded grit range, and careful attention to environmental responsibility and uniform pressure distribution built into their design.

We also, as review, covered the 7970 and 7972 Soft Pads, as well as the 7972 Soft Disc. Today, we’ll close out our three part blog by highlighting the Siasponge 7983 Pads and Discs and the 7990 and 7991 Blocks.

7983 Flex Pad

The 7983 Flex is marked by its ability to adapt extremely well to profiled and rounded work areas, with very minimal clogging tendency with applications like, paint, filler and varnish. The Siasponge 7083 Standard Pad, a two-sided aluminum oxide tool, can be used with wet or moist applications and, as with all Siasponge products, distributes evenly and does not scratch the surface.  The Flex Pad comes with other clear advantages too, like the ability to mould itself to a workpiece, the tendency to avoid undercutting varnishes and paints, and the endurance to be used multiple times effectively.

Applications:

  • Fine sanding of filler
  • Sanding curves and profiles
  • Keying without manipulating surface shape

7983 Flex Disc

The 7983 Flex Disc, essentially the machine working counterpart to the Flex Pad, is a very flexible and adaptable polyurethane disc that easily conforms to the shape of a workpiece. Much like the Flex Pad, it has the ability , due to even pressure distribution, to be used with portable machines without running the risk of undercutting. This efficient machine sander resists clogging and is conveniently color coded, like the rest of the Siasponge line, according to grit type and function.

Siasponge Blocks – 7990 & 7991

The Siasponge 7990 Hard Block is any contractor’s favorite tool for a quick and simple surface finish. This four-sided sanding block contours exceptionally well to most surfaces, even edges, profiles and rebates.  The highly usable shape and design bodes well for handling too and these blocks are easy to clean, meaning that they can be used time and time again.

Applications:

  • Sanding light curves and rebates
  • Intermediate sanding of varnishes and paints
  • Fine sanding of filler
  • Keying wood, plastic or metal before applying paint

The 7991 Soft Block is distinct from the 7990 in a couple of ways.  Rather than being ideal for material removal like the 7990, the 7991 Soft Block is best used for finishing, hence its “soft” prefix. Plus, its adaptability to workpiece shape means it’s a bit more precise than the 7990, which focuses more on full-surface transfer of pressure. Finally, the Soft Block comes in medium-ultrafine grit types, whereas the Hard Block is available in coarse-superfine, a characteristic that speaks to the 7991’s softer, extra meticulous functions.
