Anaerobics & Threadlockers

Lock. Seal. Retain.

Anaerobic Adhesives & Threadlockers

Prevent vibrational loosening, seal leaks, and mount bearings.

Anaerobic adhesives are single-component resins that remain liquid when exposed to air but cure rapidly into a tough, thermoset plastic when confined between active metal surfaces (in the absence of oxygen).

By completely filling the microscopic voids between mating metal threads or cylindrical parts, anaerobics permanently lock assemblies against vibration, shock, and thermal cycling while simultaneously sealing out corrosion and leaks.

Anaerobic adhesives, threadlockers, and retaining compounds

The 4 Types of Anaerobic Adhesives

From securing bolts to mounting gears, choose the right chemistry for your mechanical assembly.

Threadlockers

Prevents self-loosening of threaded fasteners (nuts, bolts, screws) from vibration and thermal expansion. Replaces split washers and nylon nuts.

Pipe/Thread Sealants

Seals metal pipes and fittings against fluid and gas leaks. Won’t shred, tear, or creep like PTFE tape or pipe dope. Lubricates threads during assembly.

Shop Thread Sealants →

Retaining Compounds

Fills the inner space between cylindrical assemblies (bearings, shafts, gears, rotors) to lock them in place. Allows for relaxed machining tolerances.

Flange Sealants (Gaskets)

Form-in-place liquid gasketing for rigid machined metal flanges. Fills all surface imperfections and eliminates the need for physical pre-cut gaskets.

Understanding Threadlocker Colors

Anaerobic threadlockers are universally color-coded across major brands to indicate their strength and removability.

  • Purple (Low Strength): Best for small fasteners (under 1/4″). Easily removable with standard hand tools. Ideal for set screws and calibration screws.
  • Blue (Medium Strength): The most common grade. Secures fasteners (1/4″ to 3/4″) against vibration but remains removable with hand tools.
  • Red (High Strength / Permanent): Heavy-duty locking for large bolts. Considered permanent. Requires localized heat (up to 500°F) and heavy hand tools to disassemble.
  • Green (Wicking / Penetrating): A low-viscosity liquid applied *after* the fastener is already assembled. Wicks into the threads via capillary action. Medium to high strength.
