Rivet Tape

The same adhesive does both, which is what makes this product useful. Left in place it holds like a fastener. Pulled correctly it comes off clean on many surfaces, which is why it works for temporary signage and event installs.

To remove without residue, peel slowly from a corner at a low angle, pulling back against the tape rather than straight off the surface. Yanking it fast or pulling at 90 degrees is what leaves adhesive behind. Clean removal depends on the substrate and how long the tape has been in place, so test the actual surface before a production install.

Both are 200 ft rolls, self-wound on 3 in cores, using the same GS adhesive. Width is the only difference. One 1 in roll gives you about 16.7 square feet of bond area, one 2 in roll about 33.3 square feet.

Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, silicone, or other contaminants. Not rated for chemical, solvent, or plasticizer exposure. Limit prolonged direct UV for long-term outdoor installs, since sunlight can age rubber adhesives over time.

Beyond the two stocked sizes, the GS series runs 5 to 50 mil in adhesive widths from 0.5 in to 11.5 in, including 4 in rolls and dual-lane configurations. Made-to-order sizes ship in 10 to 15 working days with low minimums, and 50 ft sample rolls are available at 5, 15, 20, 30, and 35 mil.

What is rivet tape?

Rivet tape is a double-sided rubber transfer adhesive used in place of rivets, screws, and other mechanical fasteners. The name comes from panel assembly, where the tape seals around the fastener and spreads load across the whole bond line instead of at single points. The MacTac GS series is a high-strength rubber transfer adhesive that bonds on contact with no cure time, available from 5 to 50 mil.

Will rivet tape stick to HDPE, polypropylene, brick, and concrete?

Yes. The GS adhesive is built for low surface energy plastics like polyethylene and polypropylene as well as rough and textured surfaces including concrete, masonry, and embossed or pitted materials. It also bonds metal, powder coated finishes, wood, MDF, glass, fiberglass, and corrugated materials. Heavier coat weights perform better as the surface gets rougher.

Is rivet tape permanent or removable?

It can be either. The adhesive is high-strength enough to replace mechanical fasteners, and it also removes cleanly from many surfaces when peeled slowly at a low angle from a corner. Test the actual substrate before committing to a production install.

Which width should I order?

Same adhesive, same 20 mil thickness, same 200 ft length in both. The 1 in GS1001 covers signs, plaques, displays, and trim, and gives you more parts per roll. The 2 in GS1013 is for heavier parts, larger panels, and ACM work, and delivers double the bond area per roll.

Rivet tape or acrylic foam tape?

Acrylic foam tape builds strength over time and works well on clean, smooth, high surface energy substrates. Rubber transfer tape like the GS series bonds instantly under hand pressure, holds better on textured and LSE surfaces, and costs less per roll. Rivet tape is the better fit when the surface is rough or plastic, or when the part has to hold the second it is set. Acrylic is the better fit where chemical resistance or sustained high temperature matters, since the GS series is not rated for either.
