Description
MacTac GS1001 is a 20 mil rubber transfer adhesive that bonds on contact under hand pressure alone. It grips rough, textured, and low surface energy surfaces that acrylic foam tapes struggle with, including HDPE, polypropylene, concrete, and powder coated metal. No cure time, no mixing, no fasteners.
The same adhesive works both ways. Left in place it holds like a mechanical fastener. Peeled correctly it comes off clean on many surfaces, which is why it gets used for temporary signage, event installs, and Plasticade style A-frame signs where the substrate has to survive removal.
Chemical Concepts converts this from MacTac GS series (Macbond) master rolls to a 1 in width. The 1.5 in extended dry-edge liner gives you something to grab, which speeds up handling in the shop or on a ladder.
|
Removing it without residue Peel slowly from a corner at a low angle, pulling back against the tape rather than straight off the surface. Pulling fast or at 90 degrees is what leaves adhesive behind. Clean removal depends on the substrate and how long the tape has been in place. Not recommended for wallpaper or freshly painted walls. Test the actual surface before a production install. |

Performance in Production
- Bonds on hand pressure with no cure time, so parts hold immediately instead of waiting for adhesive to build
- Heavy 20 mil coat weight wets out rough and irregular surfaces where thinner tapes cannot make full contact
- Works as a third hand: holds parts in position and alignment while fasteners go in or a structural adhesive cures
- Functions as a gap filler and moisture barrier in panel assembly
- Ungummed dry edges keep the liner clean for trimming and hand placement
- Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, silicone, or other contaminants
- Not rated for chemical, solvent, or plasticizer exposure. Limit prolonged direct UV on long-term outdoor installs, since sunlight can age rubber adhesives
Common Applications
- Sign, plaque, and nameplate mounting to brick, concrete, and powder coated metal
- Plasticade style A-frame signs, temporary event signage, and ADA signage where fasteners are not an option
- POP displays, retail fixtures, and temporary displays
- RV, trailer, and recreational vehicle interiors: panels, trim, insulation, weather stripping
- Panel and cladding attachment as a mechanical fastener replacement
- Gasket and seal placement, noise and vibration dampening
- Temporary clamping and staging during assembly
Compatible Substrates
- Low surface energy plastics: HDPE, LDPE, polypropylene, polyethylene
- UHMW
- Wood, MDF, and OSB
- Concrete, masonry, and cement board
- Aluminum, steel, and powder coated metal
- Glass and fiberglass
- Corrugated plastics and composites
How Much Does One Roll Cover?
One 200 ft roll of GS1001 gives you 2,400 linear inches of 1 in wide adhesive, or about 16.7 square feet of bond area. Actual coverage depends on how much tape each part needs. A rough planning guide:
| Application | Tape Per Part | Parts Per Roll |
|---|---|---|
| Small ADA plaque or nameplate, 4 corners | 8 in | About 300 |
| 18 x 24 in sign, perimeter strips | About 84 in | About 28 |
| A-frame sign panel, two vertical runs | About 48 in | About 50 |
| Continuous run, trim or weather stripping | Continuous | 200 ft per roll |
These are planning estimates based on roll dimensions, not performance ratings. Bond area required depends on part weight, orientation, substrate, and service conditions. Ask us if you want help sizing it.
GS1001 Questions
Should I use the 1 in GS1001 or the 2 in GS1013?
Both are 20 mil on 200 ft rolls. The 1 in GS1001 is the general purpose width for signs, plaques, displays, and trim, and it gives you more parts per roll. Step up to the 2 in GS1013 when the part is heavier, the panel is larger, or you need more bond area per run. If a 1 in strip is holding but you want margin, doubling the width doubles the bond area without changing the adhesive.
Why is the liner wider than the adhesive?
The 1 in adhesive sits on a 1.5 in liner, which leaves a dry edge on each side. MacTac coats GS series in lanes specifically for this. It gives you a clean strip to grab with a gloved hand or a fingernail, which is faster than chasing a flush liner edge, and it keeps the adhesive off your fingers during placement.
Is GS1001 the same thing as a transfer tape?
Yes. It is an unsupported transfer adhesive, meaning there is no film or foam carrier in the middle. You get 20 mil of pure rubber adhesive on a release liner. That is why it conforms to irregular surfaces better than a double-coated film or foam tape, and why the whole 20 mil thickness is doing bonding work rather than part of it being carrier.
Can GS1001 go outdoors?
It works outdoors for temporary and seasonal installs, and the adhesive has strong humidity and moisture resistance. For long-term exterior mounting in direct sun, limit prolonged UV exposure, since sunlight can age rubber adhesives over time. Service range is 0 F to 180 F. If the install needs to survive years of full sun, an acrylic tape is the better chemistry.
Regulatory and Compliance
Per MacTac’s industrial tape regulatory bulletin, revised February 2026:
- No intentionally added PFAS, PFOS, or organic fluorine compounds
- No natural rubber or natural rubber latex
- RoHS 1, 2, and 3 compliant, plus China RoHS
- REACH: no intentionally added Substances of Very High Concern above 0.1% w/w
- California Prop 65: no warning label required for rubber-based adhesives
- CPSIA compliant for lead and phthalates in children’s products
- Adhesive complies with FDA 21 CFR 175.105 for indirect food contact, subject to the limitations in that section
- No conflict minerals, BPA, phthalate plasticizers, or brominated flame retardants
- ISO 9001 certified manufacturing
MacTac classifies industrial tape products as articles under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200. Determining suitability for a specific end use remains the responsibility of the buyer.

Thinner coat weights suit POP and light assembly work. Thicker coat weights suit panel assembly, vibration dampening, and moisture resistance, and they perform better as the surface gets rougher. Sample rolls at 5, 15, 20, 30, and 35 mil are available in 50 ft lengths.
