Description
Permatex gear oil RTV is an OEM-specified silicone gasket maker engineered for the punishing environment inside differentials, transfer cases, and rear axles. Standard RTV silicones break down when friction modifiers in gear oil attack the cured rubber. Permatex gear oil RTV uses a chemistry that holds up against those additives, sealing without leakage over thousands of heat cycles in service.
Why Permatex gear oil RTV outperforms general-purpose silicones
Gear oils contain extreme pressure additives and friction modifiers that chemically attack normal silicone cures. The formulation in this product is purpose-tested to resist that breakdown. It also stays flexible across the wide temperature swings inside a drivetrain, so the seal does not shrink, harden, or crack. The result is a long-life gasket replacement that matches OEM specifications for differential and transfer case service intervals.
- Maximum gear oil resistance, formulated for differential and transfer case service
- Safe for use with friction modifiers and EP additives
- Sensor safe and non-corrosive
- Good adhesion and flexibility on cast iron, aluminum, and steel housings
- Replaces cut gaskets in most applications
- Non-flammable, low odor in the cured state
- Resists vibration and thermal cycling typical of drivetrain duty
How a Permatex gear oil RTV bead replaces a cut gasket
Clean both mating surfaces, remove old gasket material and oil residue, and lay a continuous 1/8 inch bead inside the bolt circle. Reassemble within the open time window and torque to spec in the proper sequence. The silicone forms an in-place gasket that conforms to surface variation a cut gasket cannot match, while resisting the gear oil that would dissolve a generic sealant. Allow full cure before returning to service to develop maximum chemical resistance.
