Tape in the Construction Industry: The New Mechanical Fastener?

double sided, foam and heat tapesAt Chemical Concepts, we strive to make every construction job easy and fast. The easiest and fastest adhesion option? Tape!

We know what you’re thinking. There’s no way tape is as strong as mechanical fasteners or structural adhesives! In some instances, you’re right. But there are many applications in which the right adhesive tape can be the easiest, quickest, and most durable option for your project.

Today, we want to delve into some of our strongest bonding tapes and their uses; you may just find the answer to some of your project’s toughest problems! There are so many types of tape from which you can choose, so let us help you discover what type is right for you.

High Bond Tape

As the name implies, this is the toughest tape in the industry. Designed for high energy surfaces as well as glass, these tapes can be used on almost any surface (including dissimilar substrates) and absorb differing thermal expansions of two different materials. This tape is non-yellowing as well as age and weather resistant, making it an ideal candidate for double-pane glass. Some other general features include:

  • Wind and water resistant
  • 100% acrylic based
  • UV and age resistant
  • Extreme peel and shear load resistance
  • Viscoelastic
  • Excellent sealants
  • Permanent, tension-free bond
  • Closed-cell structure

Permanent Mounting Tape

Permanent mounting tape is a double-sided, self-adhesive tape that features immediate usability after assembly. It is suitable for some of the most demanding applications, such as heavy stress or high-temperature environments, and it has excellent humidity resistance, making it an excellent replacement for mechanical fasteners. Some of the main applications of permanent mounting tape include:

  • Decorative profile mounting
  • Electronic device parts mounting
  • Plastic parts mounting in the automotive industry (ABS or PP)
  • Interior mounting

Heat Tape

Heat tape is the superior choice for countertop installation in areas where heat resistance is important, such as around stoves. The “tape” is actually aluminum foil coated with an acrylic adhesive system to create an aggressive, superior bond. The malleable foil makes this tape a great candidate for irregular surfaces. Some other great features of heat tape include:

  • Thermally conductive
  • Heat and light reflective
  • Flame resistant
  • Superior weatherability
  • Vibration dampening
  • Moisture and chemical resistant
