Tesa’s High Performance Tape Lineup – The ACXplus Series
German tape manufacturer, Tesa, is considered by many as the ‘go-to’ brand for industrial grade tapes, especially in the sign industry. We at Chemical Concepts are an exclusive distributor for Tesa, as we proudly carry a variety of their products. Any consumer or contractor too that’s not a newcomer to the world of tape knows that Tesa has been revolutionary in tape technology for decades, which is why many of our recommendations here at Chemical Concepts point straight to Tesa’s product line.
Tesa produces many reliable products but its ACXplus tapes are of special interest as they’re the self-proclaimed ‘highest performing product family made by Tesa.’ These tapes, which are designed particularly for use with constructive bonding applications, are the highlight of this blog and reason for special attention.
The ACXplus Series
This series from Tesa Tape is the ideal tape candidate for bonding building supplies. ACXplus is marked by its temperature and weather resistance, supreme bonding strength, and stress dissipation. It also carries these favorable tape characteristics:
- Meets transparent bonding requirements
- Suitable for long-term outdoor applications
- Proficient at bonding tough to bond materials
- Good at bonding high tension parts or surfaces that are irregular or non-uniform
The ACXplus series is comprised of three classes of high performance acrylic tape – 705x, 706x, and 707x. There are multiple types in each class, like for instance the 7054, 7055, 7056, 7058, etc. The last digit (x) corresponds to the thickness of the tape. For example, the 7054 has a total thickness of 19.69 mils, as opposed to the 7063, which is 31.5 mils thick.
The Classes at a glance
The 705x class of tapes are optically clear, general purpose tapes which are categorized as solid acrylic. This class is most distinct for their high transparency, which is particularly useful when dealing with transparent or translucent materials. Some applications that would call for the 705’s invisible bonding capabilities are partition walls, furniture, appliances, glass control panels or cabinets, etc.
The ACXplus clear 7055 is a solid acrylic transparent tape commonly used in bonding translucent materials like glass or acrylic.
Tesa’s 706x line is great for bonding low surface energy materials. This could include powder coated surfaces or a host of hard-to-bond plastic surfaces. The 706x should be used to bond applications like bumper rails in a variety of environments, powder coated blades or panels, mounting glass panels, and more.
The ACXplus Black 7063 is a tackified foamed acrylic that’s advantageous for lower energy surfaces and powder coated applications.
The 707x tape is a high temperature resistance tape that is best with bonding panels and reinforcement bars. The 707X can serve both indoor and outdoor applications well, especially those prone to extreme temperatures, UV exposure, harsh chemicals, solvents, etc. The 707x is often used in bonding deco panels, reinforcement bars, backrails, wood panels, cladding panels, etc.
