Woodworking: Highlighting a Few of our Favorites
From bonding large quantities of laminate panels to making intricate fixes on detailed woodwork, we at Chemical Concepts have a plethora of products at the ready to help contractors, carpenters, and millworkers bond or prepare their wood for an excellent finished product. Below we’ve highlighted a range of products, from epoxies to tapes, often leveraged with success in the woodworking arena.
Chem-Set 305 Low VOC
This synthetic elastomer contact adhesive is formulated for bonding all types of surfaces, including plywoods, laminates, and modular panels. An affinity with these types of surfaces means that Chem-Set’s 305 is an ideal choice for applications like recreational vehicles, boats, mobile homes, and pool decks. Chem-Set 305 Low VOC also has a high resistance to water, humidity, and heat, and will achieve 90% cure in just 12 hours.
Pacer’s RX5 Advanced Grade cyanoacrylate is a non-surface sensitive solution highly skilled in bonding acidic surfaces like wood, cork, cardboard, or rubber. The unique advantage with the RX5, which often comes in handy for woodworkers, proves to be its ability to attain high strength bonds on surfaces that aren’t entirely clean. Even in the face of grease, oil or other contaminants, RX5 will achieve a strong and quickly curing bond.
The Sikaflex 227 One-Component Sealant, available in tubes or drums, is a non-sag polyurethane with the capacity to cure upon exposure to its surroundings. The 227 is best used for sealing seams, joints, and gaps on exterior applications such as window perimeters, HVAC units, and grain bins. Most effective on wood, aluminum, steel, and SMC, this sealant caulk is weather resistant and non-staining.
Chem-Set P621 Blue Painters Tape
We’ve covered contact adhesives, cyanoacrylates and polyurethane sealants, but what about tape? The P621 from Chem-Set is an environmentally conscious blue painter’s tape that has the ability to prevent dry out and maintain holding power. Used most times with woodwork, trim and painted walls, the P621 can cleanly remove from most surfaces up to 21 days after application, leaving clean and convenient paint lines.
Siacar 1940 5” No Hole
The Siacar 1940 5” No Hole abrasive disk is perfect for fine sanding solid wood, keying layers of varnish, and sanding down painted or primed surfaces. The Siacar 1940 is designed for high stock removal rates, possesses a homogenous sanding pattern, and has a surprisingly long lifetime.
Permabond’s ET Series adhesives, like the ET 505 linked above, are two-part epoxies known for their durability and strength. Used on a variety of substrates, from wood to plastic and composites, the ET line exhibits excellent chemical and weather resistance. In addition, these adhesives can cure at room temperature, nixing the need for extra curing measures that most times include extra equipment and extra cost.
