Lord Corporation – The Acrylic Adhesive Arsenal

We touched on Lord’s affinity with sign bonding back in September, and highlighted the 400 Series and Accelerator 19/19GB earlier this week, but we’re going to go even deeper into Lord’s arsenal of popular acrylic products in today’s Blog. As a way of background, Lord Corporation, an innovative adhesive specialist that we’re pleased to assume the role of preferred distributor for, has been paving the way for acrylics, epoxies, and more generally, products that seem to be resistant to anything and everything! Here we’ll detail each of its acrylic types in an effort to simplify their many quality products.

Lord 201/19

200 SeriesThe 200 Series from Lord is the all-purpose choice in the Lord repertoire of acrylics, and it’s comprised of the 201, 202, 204, and 206 adhesives, distinct from one another mainly due to their differing working/ handling times and their degree of viscosity. The 200 Series does well in bonding metal-to-metal, composite-to-composite, and metal-to-plastic substrates.

201 – Medium working time – Medium viscosity

202 – Short working time – Medium viscosity

204 – Medium working time – High viscosity

206 – Long working time – Medium viscosity

400 Series

The 400 Series, which we covered at length in our last Blog, is best used in metal-to-plastic or metal-to-composite bonding. The 403, 406, and 410 differ only in their range of working and handling time. The 403 requires only 4-6 minutes before work while the 410 needs at least 20 minutes, with the 406 being the intermediate option. This range allows for flexibility in the many process requirements known in the acrylic fastening field.

600 Series

Leveraged also in the bonding of metal-to-plastic or metal-to-composite is the 600 Series acrylics from Lord. Purposed to work in coalition with the Lord’s Accelerator 6 or 6GB, the 606, 661, 662, and 663 are exceptionally strong gap-fillers that sport second-to-none surface cure, without the hassle of extensive and tedious surface preparation. Similar to the distinguishable traits we see in the other Lord series’, each 600 Series type differs in its working time and viscosity level.

606– Medium working time – High Viscosity

661– Medium working time – High Viscosity

662– Long working time – High Viscosity

663 – Extended long working time – High Viscosity

506 & 810 Acrylics

Not necessarily representatives of a series, but effective in their own right are the Lord 506 and 810 acrylics. The 506 is a medium cure, medium viscosity, semi-flexible acrylic best used in composite-to-composite bonding. Interestingly, the 506 can either be paired with Lord Accelerator 4, Accelerator 17, OR Accelerator 19The shock and stress resistant bonds ensured by the 506 are often seen in a host of applications, like ABS, polycarbonates, prepared metals, vinyl, and other such substrates.

lord 810

The Lord 810 acrylic, pictured above, is ideal for metal-to-metal situations, and is a moderate working time/viscosity choice with good flexibility. Its LRT properties make the 810 the obvious choice for sign applications and best used on surfaces like aluminum, galvanized steel, engineered plastics, or CRS. Aesthetics seem to be the top advantage of Lord 810 LRT, with little to absolutely no visible bond-line read-through present once applied and cured.
