Description
Pacer RX-5 has been discontinued and is no longer available. It was the water-thin grade in Pacer’s RX Series Range Extended line, a non-surface-sensitive ethyl hybrid cyanoacrylate at 2 to 10 cP with .002 in gap capability, supplied in a 1 lb bottle as part number FG04053. This page stays up because the specifications are still useful if you have material on the shelf, and because there is no straight one-for-one replacement, so choosing what to move to takes a decision rather than a substitution.
What to Use Instead
RX-5 did two things at once: it wicked into tight joints, and it bonded surfaces a conventional cyanoacrylate cannot. No grade currently in the Pacer line does both. You have to decide which property matters more for your part.

Shear Strength by Substrate
Tested per ASTM D-1002. Where the table reads substrate failure, the part broke before the bond did. These figures are identical across the RX Series, so they carry over to any RX grade you move to.

Is Pacer RX-5 discontinued?

What is the replacement for Pacer RX-5?
There isn’t a direct one, and that’s worth being upfront about. RX-50 keeps the non-surface-sensitive chemistry but is four times thicker at 30 to 70 cP and will not wick into a closed joint. E-5 keeps the water-thin 2 to 10 cP behavior and the .002 in gap but is a general purpose grade with no surface tolerance. RX-100 keeps the chemistry and the 1 lb package but is much thicker again. Decide which property your part actually depends on, and call us if you need both.
Is there a non-surface-sensitive wicking cyanoacrylate available?
Not in the current Pacer line. RX-5 was that product, and the thin grades in Pacer’s MR, PX, and TX series have also been discontinued. The thinnest Range Extended grade now available is RX-50 at 30 to 70 cP. I have RX-5 in stock. Is it still usable?
Depends on age and storage. Pacer’s stated shelf life is one year when refrigerated unopened, or stored in a cool, dry location away from heat sources once opened. Discontinuation does not affect material you already have, but a cyanoacrylate past its shelf life typically thickens noticeably, and thickened CA has reached the end of its useful life. Test on scrap before you put it on a production part.
What size was Pacer RX-5 supplied in?
