Product Spotlight: ChemSet RTV 6500 

Let’s take a look at one of Chemical Concepts’ longtime customer favorites – ChemSet™ RTV 6500, a premium high-temperature acetoxy cure silicone sealant and adhesive.

Acetoxy cure silicones, like the RTV 6500, have high elasticity and are exceptionally tough in extreme low and high temperature settings. Silicones also have the highest rated index for UV resistance, which is of the utmost importance to many commercial and residential applications where sealant exposure is critical.

The name “acetoxy curing silicones” comes about because these products release acetic acid upon curing… meaning they give off a bit of an odor during the process. But no need to worry – this odor disappears as the cure progresses and is not detectable after the cure is complete. Typically, these sealants cure fairly quickly, and relative to other silicones, tend to adhere better to the proper surfaces. Plus, this product offers permanent flexibility.

When fully cured, this unique VOC compliant formula offers tenacious adhesion to form waterproof and airtight bonds to materials in high temperature scenarios. The amazingly wide temperature range that this product is made for runs from -62 to 500 degrees F (continuous exposure). But in intermittent temperature scenarios, this non-slumping sealant designed for sealing and bonding applications can be exposed to temperatures as high as 650 degrees F. Along with its range of temperature usage, it’s also non-yellowing, non-flammable, is resistant to mildew, and shows excellent weatherability.

How is ChemSet RTV 6500 generally used?

There’s a long list of specific applications where you’ll find RTV 6500 to be the perfect product in your sealant arsenal:
