Description
The Devcon Zip Patch is a 4 by 9 inch adhesive-impregnated repair patch that hardens to a tough, waterproof finish in minutes at room temperature. The kit is designed for permanent field repairs to pipes, tanks, and containers in industrial environments where shutting down the asset for a welded repair is not an option.
What the Devcon Zip Patch does
The patch is a fiber-reinforced wrap pre-impregnated with a thermoset resin that cures with a measured water dip. Once activated and pressed onto the prepared surface, it builds a rigid composite shell over the leak. The cured patch resists pressure, vibration, and a wide range of process chemistries, and it is listed under NSN stock number 8040-01-309-1064 for defense and government use.
Where the Devcon Zip Patch fits
Typical jobs include sealing pinhole leaks in iron and steel pipe, patching cracked stainless tanks, repairing damaged FRP ductwork, and emergency containment work where downtime is expensive. The patch bonds to iron, steel, stainless steel, titanium, fiberglass, aluminum, wood, ceramics, composites, acrylics, PVC, and most other plastics, so it covers nearly every substrate you will encounter in a maintenance shop.
How to apply
Roughen the surface with abrasive cloth, wipe clean of oil and loose material, and let it dry. Activate the patch per the kit instructions, press it firmly over the damaged area, and smooth out air pockets with a roller or gloved hand. Hold pressure for the stated set time. The repair hardens to handling strength in a few minutes and reaches full chemical resistance after a brief cure. For higher-pressure systems, consider applying a reinforcing wrap and a topcoat once the patch has fully cured.
