Quick, Strong Bonds: Faster-Acting Cements from SciGrip

Our customers have been thrilled that Chemical Concepts has been named as an official distributor for SciGrip adhesives (formerly known as WeldOn). These smart methacrylate adhesives for metals, composites and plastics are consistently solving problems and impressing clients. Let’s take a look at three of the faster-acting cements available from SciGrip.

SciGrip 66

SciGrip 66 SciGrip 66 is a clear, light bodied, fast drying solvent cement. Known for providing instant, high strength which will increase as the solvent dissipates, it’s used as a contact cement. The longer the open time (5 to 10 min) and with sufficient assembly pressure, the greater the immediate strength will be.

SciGrip 66 may be used on surfaces that are wet to wet or wet to dry, but its true advantage is its high initial strength on contact. Whatever the bonding technique used, it will provide high-strength, long-lasting, water resistant bonds under normal use. Just be aware that some yellowing may be expected.

Recommended Applications for SciGrip 66

SciGrip 66 is recommended for fabricating or repairing flexible vinyl in numerous applications: pond liners, shower pans, pool liners, moisture barriers, waterbeds, upholstery and wearing apparel. SciGrip 66 also bonds urethane and canvas to themselves and to wood, cardboard, Kydex®, cellulose acetate butyrate and ABS.

Materials that Bond Well to SciGrip 66

SciGrip 66 is formulated for bonding flexible or rigid vinyl (PVC) to itself or to urethane, canvas, ABS, foamed PVC, butyrate and wood.

SciGrip 1802

SciGrip 1802SciGrip 1802 is a clear, thin- bodied, medium set, solvent cement. It cures with the dissipation of solvents forming strong, water-resistant, weather-resistant clear joints. Initial bonds form very quickly. Depending on size and conditions, some parts may be handled within just a few minutes of application. Bond strength will be considerable in a few hours and will reach high strength in 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, strength will gradually increase for a number of weeks.

Recommended Applications for SciGrip 1802

SciGrip 1802 is recommended for use in a variety of application such as large housings, signs, plastic letters, industrial fabrications, display items, lenses and models.

Materials that Bond Well to SciGrip 1802

SciGrip 1802 is formulated to bond acrylic (poly-methyl methacrylate), ABS, cellulose acetate butyrate, rigid PVC, and polystyrene to themselves and to each other. It does not bond to metal or glass.

SciGrip 4807

SciGrip 4807SciGrip 4807 is a milky, medium-bodied, fast drying solvent type cement. It forms high strength, rigid bonds in joining general purpose and high impact types of styrene. Chemical, physical, and electrical properties are similar to those of high impact styrene.

Its cure is affected by dissipation of the solvent from the cement and surrounding parts softened by it. Initial bond will usually take place within minutes and may be of sufficient strength for handling. Bond strength will be considerable in a few hours and will reach high strength in 24 to 72 hours. Thereafter, strength will continue to increase gradually for some weeks.

Recommended Applications for SciGrip 4807

SciGrip 4807 is recommended as a general usage for styrene where a bodied cement is desired. It is suitable for a wide variety of applications, such as large and small assemblies, large displays, signs, lighting fixtures, housewares, large and small containers, toys, electrical or electronic assemblies, decorator items, etc.

Materials that Bond Well to SciGrip 4807

SciGrip 4807 is capable of forming high strength bonds in joining general purpose and high impact types of styrene.
