Orange-Sol’s history is perhaps the most unique among our suppliers, and it’s a story that must be told. It’s one of many reasons that we’re proud to offer Orange-Sol’s strong yet safe cleaning solvents at Chemical-Concepts. Although quite specialized in their product offerings, the handful of Orange-Sol products that we offer are second to none in their quality, effectiveness, and environmental consciousness.

The Orange-Sol Story – In Short

Orange-Sol was started in the 1930’s, at least in concept, by American chemist Edwin Lloyd Ackerman. The light bulb moment for Ackerman occurred as he peeled an orange rather conventionally one day while breaking for lunch. As he peeled and ate he noticed the natural oils of the orange beginning to dissolve resins that had been left over on his hand from his work. Stumbling upon the natural power of orange oil gave birth to what would become Orange-Sol.

Orange-Sol’s Rise to Fame

Orange-Sol is perhaps best known for its role in the Alaskan Oil Spill of 1989. Not yet a mainstay for shops, labs or even homes, it would soon become one after it greatly aided in the cleanup of the spill. Some 200,000 gallons of Orange-Sol’s All Purpose Cleaner were sent to the spill zone, where 12,000 workers, their boats, and their equipment were safely and effectively cleaned. If there was any doubt about Orange-Sol APC’s safety prior to its use in the cleanup, those doubts were dispelled after then CEO Al Farnsworth drank a cup of the citrus solvent in front of the group contracted to oversee the cleanup!  The rest is history.

Since the Alaskan spill, this powerful degreaser has been called upon again and again (Kuwait, Morocco, & the Gulf of Mexico) to neutralize and safely cleanup after environmental disaster of a similar degree.

Heavy Duty 245 is an organic, non-toxic, biodegradable, maximum strength solvent purposed for cleaning and industrial degreasing. This product is a mirror of the solution that helped with the oil spill, but believe it or not, it’s actually stronger!

Orange-Sol Spot Remover Citrus Solvent

Orange-Sol’s Spot Remover Solvent is totally clear, totally safe, and absolutely non-toxic. It’s ideal with spotting, often used with tar, chewing gum, adhesives, oil, wax, blood, cosmetics, and more.

De-Solv-It Multi Purpose (32 Oz. & 18.5 oz.)

De-Solv-it is a convenient, spray on solution that removes all sorts of challenges around the house, shop, and anywhere in between. This is perhaps the lowest profile product of the bunch, having good use right at home, but that doesn’t mean its properties are anything short of industrial strength. It’s to be used with treating sticky, gooey, waxy, and oily surfaces. It’s strong enough to dissolve grease yet safe enough to use in laundry, and even skin or hair.
