Description
CHT Primer 6 is a clear silicone primer supplied in a 1 gallon pail for shops bonding condensation-cure RTV silicone sealants and rubbers to non-porous surfaces. CHT describes Primer No. 6 as a silicone-based primer for most metals, with a fast-drying solvent carrier that leaves an adhesion-promoting layer after the alcohol solvent flashes off.
CHT Primer 6 Uses
- Priming metal housings, brackets, frames, and fixture parts before RTV silicone bonding.
- Preparing non-porous surfaces where unprimed silicone does not wet the substrate well enough.
- Supporting electronic, lighting, and general manufacturing assemblies that use condensation-cure silicone.
- Standardizing a brush-on primer step for repeatable shop bonding work.
The 1 gallon package fits production cells and maintenance benches that go through more primer than small bottles can support. It is a thin liquid, so technicians should apply a light, even coat and allow the carrier to dry before placing silicone. The manufacturer notes that suitability and bond strength should be checked with small trials when substrates or process conditions are new.
CHT Primer 6 Handling
- Use on clean, dry surfaces free of oil, dust, release agents, and loose residue.
- Apply only enough primer to wet the surface, then let it dry before sealant placement.
- Keep containers closed between uses to limit solvent loss and contamination.
- Do not assume fit for acrylic or polycarbonate parts without testing, since the CHT data sheet flags those materials as unsuitable.
CHT Primer 6 Technical Notes
Published CHT data lists Primer No. 6 as a pale yellow liquid with alcohol odor, about 0.83 g/cm3 density, about 1 cP viscosity at room temperature, and a 28 C flash point. Those figures help safety and process teams plan storage, dispensing, ventilation, and work instructions before the primer goes into production.
