Description
Sika Primer-206 G+P is a black, solvent-based primer supplied in a 250 mL bottle for preparing bond faces before Sika one-component polyurethane adhesives and sealants are applied. It reacts with moisture to form a thin adhesion-promoting layer on glass, ceramic-coated glass, metals, plastics, and coated surfaces when the substrate is approved for the primer system.
Sika Primer-206 Benefits
- Black pigmented film helps technicians confirm coverage on glass and painted bond areas.
- Solvent-based polyurethane chemistry supports adhesion prep for Sika polyurethane bonding workflows.
- Brush, felt, or foam applicator methods make the primer practical for bench work and field installation.
- Ten minute flash-off above 59 degrees F supports a clear handoff from prep to adhesive application.
- 250 mL bottle size fits service kits, marine work, transportation repair, and controlled shop use.
Use this primer when the Sika bonding guide calls for it on the actual substrate combination in front of you. Sika Primer-206 is especially relevant for glass and metal bonding work where a clean, consistent primer film helps the polyurethane adhesive develop the intended bond.
Where Sika Primer-206 Fits
- Marine window and hatch bonding with compatible Sika polyurethane adhesives.
- Transportation glass, trim, and panel prep where primer is specified.
- Prepared metal, ceramic-coated glass, and selected plastic substrates.
- Repair stations that need a small bottle for controlled primer application.
- Bond faces that need visible black primer coverage before adhesive placement.
Surface Preparation and Use
Clean the bond area with the Sika-approved cleaning process before applying primer. Shake the bottle thoroughly, use a clean applicator, and apply a thin continuous film. Do not flood the surface, and keep the cap closed when the primer is not in use because moisture exposure shortens usable life after opening.
Let the primer flash off before applying adhesive. The current data sheet lists 10 minutes above 59 degrees F, 30 minutes below 59 degrees F, and a maximum open time of 24 hours. Sensitive plastics and coated parts should be tested with original substrates before production use.
Technical Details and Documentation
The current product data sheet lists black color, 36 percent solids, application temperature of 41 to 104 degrees F, brush, felt, or foam application, approximate consumption of 50 mL per square meter depending on porosity, and 9 month shelf life. Review current Sika guidance at Sika USA before approving a bond process.
