Sika Products Are Helping to Transform the Refrigerated Trucking Industry

Sika logoWithin the transportation industry, recent years have brought dramatic changes in the styling and manufacturing of nearly every type of trailer. But perhaps the category that’s seen the most change is refrigerated trailers and containers, especially in the mix of materials used to fabricate such equipment. Manufacturers are continually seeking to reduce vehicle weight, improve fuel economy, durability and enhance thermal insulation. To accomplish those goals, fiberglass composites and sandwich panel structures are becoming more and more the norm.

The transportation industry is seeking products to support these ever-evolving manufacturing changes. To that end, Chemical Concepts is becoming a go-to distributor for the best in a full range of polymers, accelerators, acrylics and other products.

We proudly distribute Sika products, which can provide a range of high-performance solutions for body assembly. Sikaflex polyurethane sealants and adhesives combine simplicity of application with superb adhesion and durability. And SikaFast two-component adhesives combine low surface preparation and high tensile strength with rapid de-jigging and full cure.

Let’s take a brief look at just three Sika products that offer many advantages for the construction of refrigerated trailers and containers, along with several other transportation needs.

SIKAFLEX®-221

Sikaflex 221Sikaflex-221 bonds well to a wide variety of substrates and is suitable for making permanent elastic seals of high adhesive strength.

Suitable substrate materials are:
– wood,
– metals,
– metal primers and paint coatings (2-c systems),
– ceramic materials and
– plastics.

Sikaflex-221 is a high-quality multi-purpose non-sag 1-c polyurethane sealant that cures on exposure to atmospheric humidity to form a durable elastomer. Plus you can match it to your specific aesthetic needs as it comes in a variety of colors (white , black, colonial white, aluminum gray) and sizes (600 ml, 4.5 gal pail).

What is Sikaflex-221 known for?

– 1-C formulation,
– Elastic,

SIKAFAST®-3131S
SIKAFAST 3131SSikaFast-3131S is a 10:1 two part structural adhesive designed to substitute or complement welding, riveting, clinching and other mechanical fastening techniques used in the manufacture of transportation vehicles. It’s designed to efficiently transfer high loads and evenly distribute stresses. This product comes with incorporated spacer shims (0.027 – 0.033 inch) to maintain uniform bondline thickness. SikaFast-3131S is suitable for bonding sidewall panels; roofs, floors and parts made of aluminum, stainless or galvanized steel and fiber reinforced polymers.

What is Sikafast-3131S known for?

– High strength,
– Fast setting and curing,
– Spacers for bondline control,
– High ductility,
– Good damping properties, and
– Excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates with little or no surface preparation.

SIKA® PRIMER-206 G+P

SIKA PRIMER-206 G+PSika® Primer-206 G+P is used as a corrosion inhibitor on metals. It may also touch up pinchweld scratches. Some clients have successfully used it when a frit band is not available on the perimeter of the glass part to provide partial UV protection to the polyurethane.

It is also used as a general purpose primer which is used to promote adhesion to:
– glass,
– FRP,
– ABS,
– plastics,
– aluminum,
– steel, and
– paints.

What is Sika Primer-206 G+P known for?
