Mactac IF4044 Adhesive Transfer Tape, 4.0 mil, 12 in x 180 ft (Macfilm HSA440)

Description

IF4044 transfer tape is 4.0 mil of unsupported HSA440 acrylic on a release liner, with no carrier film in the middle. Peel the liner and adhesive is all that transfers to the part, which is what keeps the bond line invisible on a mounted print or a laminated panel. The extra coat weight over the 2.0 mil grade is why this version exists. Thicker adhesive wets down into a rough or uneven surface instead of bridging across it, and it holds a heavier face stock without the edges creeping.

Where IF4044 transfer tape earns its place

Print mounting is the main job. Photographic prints, digital output and laminated graphics bond down with no visible tape line, and the heavier film handles thicker media a low coat weight grade will not keep flat. Sign fabricators run it for low profile bonding where the joint has to disappear from the face, and it works through laminated build ups where two coated surfaces meet. When the face stock is heavy, the print is textured, or the substrate has a grain, coat weight decides whether the bond still holds at the corners a month later.

It is self wound on a 3 inch core in a 12 inch width. Converters run it on a rotary die, and narrower slit widths can be quoted for a production run.

How IF4044 transfer tape holds up

Peel adhesion to stainless steel is 6.5 lb/in and tack is 7.2 lb/sq in, both above the 2.0 mil version of the same adhesive at 5.5 lb/in and 6 lb/sq in. Static shear runs 90+ hours. Bond strength survives 100 hours of water immersion at room temperature and 72 hours in a 5% salt water solution, and it holds at 90°F and 96% relative humidity through hot and cold cycling. Applied correctly it resists motor oil, gasoline, weak acids and weak alkalis. The adhesive carries UL969 and CSA 22.2 No. 15 recognition as a marking and labeling systems component for indoor and outdoor use under file MH12627, and it passes FMVSS302 flammability testing. It is pH neutral and acid free to ISO18902 and passes the Photographic Activity Test to ISO18916, which matters when it sits behind an archival print.

Specifications

One qualifier for anyone cross shopping this against 3M 468MP. That product is 5.0 mil and this is 4.0 mil, which makes it the nearest equivalent in the Macfilm range rather than a drop in match.
