Permabond TA46XX Polyolefin Bonding Adhesives

Polyolefin & LSE Plastic Bonding

Adhesives for HDPE, Polypropylene, UHMW & PTFE

Primerless structural acrylics for untreated low surface energy plastics.

Bonding “slick” or “waxy” low surface energy (LSE) plastics has historically required expensive flame, corona, or plasma surface treatments. The Permabond TA4600 Series eliminates those steps entirely.

These advanced structural acrylics deliver reliable, high-strength bonding for High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Polypropylene (PP), UHMW, and PTFE (Teflon)—with absolutely no primer required. They are the ultimate solution for bonding difficult polyolefins to metals and composites in demanding industrial applications.

Why is HDPE so difficult to bond?

Plastics like HDPE, Polypropylene, and PTFE have extremely low surface energy. Their slick, chemically resistant surfaces make it nearly impossible for standard adhesives to “wet out.” Poor wetting means the glue just sits on top of the plastic rather than biting into it, resulting in a weak, easily broken joint.

Historically, engineers had to rely on hazardous primers or expensive flame, corona, and plasma treatments to artificially increase the plastic’s surface energy before gluing.

Permabond’s TA46XX Series solves this challenge. Its advanced primerless chemistry naturally wets out and bites directly into HDPE and polyolefins, creating a structural bond that is often stronger than the plastic itself.

High vs Low Surface Energy comparison for adhesive bonding

Left: High surface energy (great wetting).
Right: Low surface energy (poor wetting).

Key Features & Benefits

  • Zero Surface Prep: Bonds HDPE, PP, and LSE plastics without primers, flame, or plasma treatment.
  • Dissimilar Material Bonding: Aggressively adheres difficult plastics directly to steel, aluminum, and composites.
  • Room Temperature Cure: No ovens or heat required. Easy 1:1 mix ratio via dual-cartridge dispensing.
  • Extreme Shear Strength: The bond is so strong that the plastic substrate often fails before the adhesive joint breaks.
  • Safe & Compliant: Good chemical and impact resistance; non-hazardous for shipping constraints.

Featured TA46XX Grades for Polyolefins

TA4610 — The Go-To for HDPE & PP

A 2-part, 1:1 toughened acrylic adhesive for bonding High-Density Polyethylene and Polypropylene without primers. Offers excellent adhesion to metals, making it the ultimate solution for dissimilar material joints.

  • Highest impact and chemical resistance
  • Contains microbeads for perfect gap spacing
  • Sets in 12–15 minutes

TA4611 — Low Odor, Precision Bonding

Developed for LSE plastics like HDPE, UHMW & PTFE where aesthetics and low odor matter on the shop floor. Contains no microbeads, making it ideal for extremely thin bond lines or visible cosmetic joints.

  • Greatly reduced worker odor
  • Zero gap restrictions (no microbeads)
  • Sets in 10–16 minutes

TA4600 Series — Technical Comparison

Grade Fixture Time Shear Strength (PP/HDPE) Viscosity Appearance
