Description

CounterBalance CounterPlate Plus bracket is a concealed steel support for stone and solid-surface countertop overhangs mounted on knee walls or pony walls. Its low-profile plate sits beneath the top, while the reinforced rear flange ties into the wall framing to support breakfast bars without visible corbels.

Where CounterPlate Plus Fits

The bracket is designed for half-wall installations where a countertop extends beyond the wall line. The 12 inch version supports overhangs up to 15 inches, and the 15 inch version supports overhangs up to 18 inches. Both sizes use a 5 inch rear flange and a 2.5 inch plate width. Supports should be spaced 16 to 20 inches apart, with the final layout adjusted for the countertop material, thickness, seams, cutouts, and project requirements.

The L-shaped profile combines a horizontal plate with a vertical rear section. During installation, the wall header and stud area are routed so the bracket can sit flush. Pilot holes are drilled after the bracket is test-fitted, then the plate is fastened into the framing. The countertop is set from the appropriate side of the wall and bonded to the top of the support with a compatible silicone sealant.

Steel Construction and Installation

CounterPlate Plus is made from 1/4 inch HRPO steel with a black powder-coated finish. The plate is weight-tested up to 500 pounds under the documented test conditions. That rating does not replace project-specific engineering, correct wall framing, proper fasteners, or the countertop supplier’s installation requirements. Always verify the complete support plan before setting the top.

Choose the plate length from the planned overhang, then mark every support position before routing the wall. Confirm that plumbing, wiring, blocking, and cabinet components will not interfere with the rear flange or fasteners. The routed recess should let the horizontal plate sit flat and flush with the top of the wall. A plate left proud can create an uneven bearing point under the countertop.

Test-fit each support before the top arrives. Fasten into sound framing, check that every plate lies in the same plane, and correct the wall structure before setting stone. When the countertop is moved into place, avoid tipping or dropping an edge onto an isolated bracket. Apply the specified silicone to the support surface, set the top evenly, and follow the countertop fabricator instructions for cure and handling. Conceal the rear flange only after the bracket installation has been inspected. Photograph bracket locations before drywall or backsplash work hides the mounting points.
