Description
AS1740 silicone sealant is a clear, one-component CHT RTV cartridge for sealing, coating, adhesive, and potting work where a flowable neutral cure silicone is needed. It is built for electronics, assemblies, and maintenance work that call for a non-corrosive silicone with documented MIL-A-46146B and UL references.
AS1740 silicone sealant Benefits
- Neutral alkoxy cure helps protect sensitive parts where acetic acid cure chemistry is not a fit.
- Self-leveling flow helps the material wet into channels, small cavities, and low-profile coating areas.
- Clear translucent appearance supports visual inspection of coverage on assemblies and components.
- 27 Shore A hardness gives cured material flexibility for parts that see movement or thermal cycling.
- 310 ml cartridge format fits standard one-component caulk gun setups used in maintenance and production cells.
Use this cartridge when the job needs a silicone that can flow into detail areas without becoming a thick paste. The CHT product page lists a working temperature range from -62 C to 200 C, 400 percent elongation at break, 1.8 N/mm2 tensile strength, and UL file E334038.
Where AS1740 silicone sealant Fits
- Electronic component coating and environmental sealing.
- Clear potting or encapsulating of small assemblies.
- Adhesive sealing on plastic, metal, ceramic, and glass parts after test bonding.
- Mil-spec maintenance work calling for MIL-A-46146B referenced silicone.
- Shop repairs where a self-leveling RTV is easier to place than a paste bead.
Surface Preparation And Use
Clean every bonding surface until it is dry and free of oil, loose material, dust, and release residue. CHT notes that priming is normally not required, but production parts should still be tested because plastics, plating, and surface treatments can change adhesion.
Apply to one clean surface, bring the parts together inside the tack-free window, and leave joints undisturbed while moisture cure begins. For adhesive use, CHT recommends at least a 1 mm sealant thickness for bond strength. Cure speed depends on temperature, humidity, and the thickness of the deposit.
Technical Details And Documentation
CHT lists AS1740 as a self-leveling RTV with alkoxy cure, 1.03 g/cm3 density, 18 minute skin formation at 23 C, dielectric strength above 18 kV/mm, and volume resistivity of 2.25E+15 ohm cm. Review the current technical data from CHT Group before approving this material for a production build.
Dispensing And Ordering Help
The 310 ml cartridge is a practical size for bench work, repair kits, and lower-volume assembly jobs. Confirm bead size, cure time, and storage life before replacing a different silicone in an existing process.
