Description
CONAPOXY FR-1046 is a black epoxy potting and casting resin supplied here as a 1 gallon can. It is used with compatible CONACURE hardeners for low shrinkage, low exotherm encapsulation where electrical insulation and thermal shock resistance matter.
CONAPOXY FR-1046 Benefits
- Low viscosity resin helps material flow around electronic assemblies during potting.
- Low shrinkage supports dimensional stability as the encapsulant cures around components.
- Low exotherm helps reduce heat stress in larger potted masses.
- Non-abrasive fillers reduce wear on automatic meter, mix, and dispense equipment.
- Very good electrical insulation properties support electronic protection work.
This resin fits potting and casting work for electronic assemblies, modules, and devices that need a filled epoxy system. Hardener selection affects gel time, cure schedule, mixed viscosity, and final properties, so confirm the full system before quoting production work.
CONAPOXY FR-1046 Applications
- Potting and casting electronic assemblies that need electrical insulation.
- Encapsulation work using automatic meter, mix, and dispense equipment.
- Filled epoxy casting where low shrinkage and low exotherm are important.
- Electronic protection projects exposed to thermal cycling.
- Bench casting with CONACURE hardeners selected for the process window.
Surface Preparation And Use
Mix the resin before use if fillers have settled. Keep containers closed when not in use and bring material to the processing temperature recommended in the technical sheet before dispensing. Clean housings, fixtures, and components so dust, oil, and moisture do not interfere with wetting.
Weigh resin and hardener accurately. Mix until uniform, then degas when the part geometry or electrical requirements demand low void content. Validate cure schedule and exotherm on the actual pour size before scaling up.
Technical Details And Documentation
The FR-1046 data sheet lists black resin viscosity at 17,000 cP at 25 degrees C and cured Shore D hardness values from 85 to 88 depending on hardener. It also lists dielectric strength of 375 vpm and 24 hour room-temperature cure schedules with compatible hardeners. Review current product-family information from ELANTAS before production use.
