Description
Backing Compound is a Devcon high-strength liquid epoxy for filling cavities behind wear parts in crushers and mills. The 20 lb kit is built for maintenance teams that need a resilient backing and reinforcing layer between machine parts exposed to impact and shock loads.
Backing Compound Benefits
- Liquid epoxy pours into the cavity behind crusher liners, mill parts, and related wear components.
- High compression and impact strength help support heavy machine parts under repeated load.
- Low exotherm helps the pour cure with less heat buildup in thick sections.
- Negligible shrink helps maintain support after the cavity is filled.
- 100 percent solids formula contains no solvents and can be machined, drilled, or painted after full cure.
This product is used when a liner or wearing part needs firm support rather than a troweled surface repair. Proper damming, mixing, and pour control are essential because unmixed material may not harden correctly.
Backing Compound Applications
- Rod, ball, pebble, and autogenous mills.
- Cone crushers and gyratory crushers.
- Backing and reinforcing spaces between machine parts.
- Damping impact and shock loads in mining and aggregate equipment.
- Maintenance programs replacing worn liner support material during shutdowns.
Surface Preparation and Pouring
Clean the cavity and surrounding parts so loose material, oil, and debris do not contaminate the pour. Build a dam from suitable material to seal gaps and direct the epoxy into the specified space.
Mix thoroughly, then pour immediately so the material pushes air away as it fills the cavity. Do not pour visibly unmixed resin from the sides or bottom of the pail into the equipment. Temperature affects cure and pot life, so follow the current data sheet before scheduling return to service.
Technical Details and Documentation
Devcon technical data describes this compound as a high-strength liquid epoxy for crushers and mills, with 100 percent solids, high compression and impact strength, low exotherm, and full cure in 16 hours at room temperature. Review current information from Devcon before approving a repair process.
