Description
HY 8628 hardener is the hardener component for Huntsman Araldite AY 8629-1 / Hardener HY 8628 two-component polyurethane adhesive. The 20 kg pail supports production bonding programs that need a transparent, cold-curing adhesive system for metal and plastic assemblies.
HY 8628 hardener Benefits
- Matched hardener for the AY 8629-1 resin side of the Araldite polyurethane adhesive system.
- Transparent cured adhesive helps with assemblies where bond line appearance matters.
- Cold-curing chemistry supports bonding without heated fixtures in many shop setups.
- Huntsman lists the system for metal and plastic substrate compatibility.
- Bulk 20 kg packaging fits meter-mix equipment, production cells, and planned adhesive use.
This hardener should be ordered with the compatible resin component and used only under the current Huntsman processing instructions. Keep the package sealed until use and protect both components from contamination.
HY 8628 hardener Applications
- Transparent bonding of plastic-to-plastic parts.
- Metal-to-plastic assembly where a resilient polyurethane bond is preferred.
- General structural adhesive work requiring 2K polyurethane chemistry.
- Production bonding with metering, mixing, and spreading equipment.
- Repair or fixture work where hand mixing is approved by the process owner.
Surface Preparation and Use
Clean joint surfaces before bonding to remove oil, grease, release agents, dirt, and handling residue. Huntsman guidance calls for suitable degreasing, then abrasion or chemical treatment when the strongest durable joint is required. Keep prepared surfaces dry before adhesive is applied.
Blend resin and hardener until the mix is uniform. Apply the adhesive to the prepared joint, assemble parts promptly, and maintain even contact pressure while the bond cures. Verify cure time at the plant temperature, since lower temperatures slow strength build.
Technical Details and Documentation
Huntsman identifies Araldite AY 8629-1 / Hardener HY 8628 as a transparent, fast-curing polyurethane adhesive with a 100:100 mix by weight and volume. The published product page lists cold cure, UV stability, metal and plastic compatibility, and typical minimum shear-strength timing. Review current data from Huntsman before release.
