Description
Araldite AW 8680 with hardener HW 8685 is a fast-curing, two-part polyurethane adhesive from Huntsman that bonds plastics and painted metals into a tough, impact-resistant joint. The black system cures at room temperature and reaches handling strength quickly, which keeps assembly lines moving. It is built for substrates that defeat many epoxies, including polycarbonate, ABS, nylon, and Telene.
Where Araldite AW 8680 is used
Transportation, electronics, and general fabrication shops use it to join dissimilar plastics and coated metal panels where the bond has to take flex and shock without cracking. The polyurethane chemistry stays tough at low temperature and shrugs off vibration, so it holds on enclosures, housings, and trim that see road or field service. Good environmental stability keeps the joint sound through humidity and temperature cycling.
How Araldite AW 8680 cures and performs
Meter the resin and hardener at the rated ratio, mix to a uniform color, and apply to clean, abraded surfaces. The system cures at room temperature with a working time suited to bench assembly, then builds strength over the following hours. The result is a resilient bond with high peel and impact resistance, better suited than rigid adhesives to parts that must absorb energy rather than fracture. Keep the bond line thin and hold the parts fixtured until the adhesive sets so they do not drift during cure. Abrading and degreasing the surfaces first gives the polyurethane a clean profile to grip.
