Description
LORD Accelerator 6GB is the curative half of a two-part LORD acrylic structural adhesive system. Mixed into the resin at the specified ratio, it triggers cure and, because it carries glass micro-beads, it also sets the bondline thickness automatically instead of leaving that up to guesswork with shims or spacers.
Structural adhesive assemblies live or die on consistent bondline gap. Too thin and the joint loses peel strength; too thick and cure time and cost climb. The glass beads in Accelerator 6GB hold the gap at a fixed dimension across the whole bond line, which is why LORD builds an entire family of GB-suffix accelerators (4GB, 17, 19GB, 20GB) around the same principle at different bead sizes.
Structural Adhesive Accelerator Packaging
6GB ships in a straight-side metal pail, sized for shops mixing larger batches of LORD acrylic adhesive rather than cartridge-format cure-in-place applications. It is a bulk-format accelerator, not a pre-dosed cartridge component, so metering equipment or manual batch mixing needs to hit the ratio LORD specifies on the product’s technical data sheet.
Matched to the Right LORD Resin
Accelerators in this family are not stand-alone adhesives. They only work paired with the LORD acrylic resin they are rated for, at the mix ratio and bead size the datasheet calls out. Get the pairing wrong and either the cure profile or the bondline thickness comes out wrong, which is a common failure point when a shop substitutes an accelerator to save a step. Chemical Concepts confirms the correct pairing for a customer’s specific LORD resin before shipping.
Structural Adhesive Accelerator Applications
Sign assembly, cladding, vehicle panel bonding, and other jobs that need a fast-curing adhesive bond with a controlled bondline gap all use this accelerator family. It is a component in a system, and the whole system is what should get specified for a given joint design.
Chemical Concepts carries the full line of acrylic adhesives and matched accelerators. Parker LORD publishes technical data sheets for the resin and accelerator pairings on its corporate site.
