Description
Permabond 240 is a high viscosity ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive for fast bonding where a thicker instant adhesive is easier to control. It is commonly selected for porous substrates, larger gap applications, and assemblies involving plastics, rubber, and metals.
Permabond 240 Material Fit
The Permabond 240 CA is a one-part, no-mix adhesive that develops strength quickly when compressed into a thin film between prepared parts. The higher viscosity helps reduce run-off on vertical or absorbent surfaces, giving production teams more placement control than very thin instant adhesives. The manufacturer also lists it as 100 percent reactive with no solvents and notes approval to MIL-A-46050C Type II Class 3 for existing designs.
Permabond 240 Application Notes
Use clean, dry, grease-free surfaces. On some metals, light abrasion can help remove oxide before bonding. Apply the adhesive sparingly to one side, bring the parts together quickly, and hold alignment until handling strength develops. Difficult plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, PTFE, or silicone need the correct primer rather than a guess. For related products, review Chemical Concepts cyanoacrylate adhesives.
Production Notes
This adhesive is useful when small parts must be assembled quickly, when a porous edge would absorb a low-viscosity CA too fast, or when a slightly thicker bead helps bridge an imperfect joint. Avoid over-application because cyanoacrylates cure best in thin bond lines. Keep bottles closed when not dispensing, protect tips from contamination, and confirm the working temperature, fixture time, and substrate preparation before building a repeatable process.
