Description
Permabond 731 is a toughened ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive supplied here as a 1 ounce low-shelf-life bottle for repair, assembly, and short-run bonding work. It bonds rapidly at room temperature and is built for parts that need better impact and peel resistance than a conventional instant adhesive.
Permabond 731 Benefits
- Toughened formula supports bonded parts that see flexing, impact, or peel stress.
- Longer cure behavior gives operators more time for accurate alignment before the joint locks.
- Single-component adhesive needs no mixing, heat cure, or cartridge hardware.
- 150 cP viscosity at 25 degrees C gives more placement control than very thin CA grades.
- Manufacturer data lists adhesion to steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, plastics, and elastomers.
This low-shelf-life listing is best for buyers who can use the bottle promptly and want the cost advantage of clearance stock. Check the listed expiration information and qualify the adhesive before using it on critical production work.
Permabond 731 Applications
- Rubber and plastic bonding where standard CA can be too brittle.
- Metal-to-plastic repair jobs that need quick room-temperature cure.
- Small assemblies that require a short alignment window.
- Maintenance repairs on steel, aluminum, zinc, PVC, and acrylic parts.
- Prototype work where a toughened instant adhesive is easier than a two-part system.
Surface Preparation and Use
Bonding surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of grease. Use a suitable solvent such as acetone or isopropanol where the substrate allows it, then let the surface dry fully before applying adhesive. Some metals can benefit from light abrasion to remove oxide before bonding.
Apply sparingly, press parts together, and hold alignment until handling strength develops. Thin bond lines usually cure faster than thick beads, and very large gaps may need a different adhesive family.
Technical Details and Documentation
Permabond technical data lists 0.15 mm maximum gap fill, under 30 second fixture time on steel, 40 to 60 N per 25 mm peel strength by ASTM D-903, and 5 to 10 kJ per square meter impact strength by ASTM D-950. Review current resources from Permabond before production use.
