Description
Permabond 748 is a flexible cyanoacrylate gel for bonding dissimilar materials that may see peel load, impact, vibration, or thermal cycling. It is a one-part, solvent-free instant adhesive with a thixotropic body, so it stays easier to place than a thin CA on vertical, semi-porous, or irregular surfaces.
Permabond 748 Benefits
- Flexible cured bond line helps absorb peel, impact, and vibration in mixed-material assemblies.
- Gel viscosity helps the adhesive stay where it is placed during fixture work.
- One-part moisture cure removes mixing steps for small assembly and repair jobs.
- Useful on flexible and semi-porous surfaces when a thin instant adhesive runs too quickly.
- Can bond silicone when paired with the correct polyolefin primer and validated on the actual parts.
Use this grade when a rigid instant adhesive is not the right fit for a joint that moves, flexes, or sees hot-cold cycling. The material is still a cyanoacrylate, so close-fitting joints, clean surfaces, and controlled adhesive amount matter.
Where Permabond 748 Fits
- Rubber-to-metal or plastic-to-metal assemblies that see vibration.
- Flexible trim, seals, and semi-porous parts that need fast handling strength.
- Small repairs where a gel CA is easier to place than a low-viscosity grade.
- Bonding dissimilar materials that may see thermal shock or thermal cycling.
- Silicone bonding trials when used with a compatible primer system.
Surface Preparation and Use
Clean parts so the bond area is dry and free of oil, grease, dust, and release agents. Permabond guidance notes that acetone or isopropanol can be used for degreasing, and some metals such as aluminum, copper, and copper alloys may benefit from light abrasion before bonding.
Apply a small amount to one surface, assemble the parts, and hold them still until handling strength develops. Excess adhesive can slow cure, leave squeeze-out, or make the joint harder to inspect. For difficult plastics or silicone, test with the specified primer before approving production.
Permabond 748 Technical Details
Published data lists this grade as a cyanoacrylate gel with no solvent, moisture cure, colorless appearance, and up to 0.5 mm gap fill. Review current product information from Permabond before setting bond line, fixture time, or primer requirements.
