Description
Permabond HM162 is a medium-viscosity anaerobic retaining compound for cylindrical metal assemblies that need very high strength and higher temperature resistance. Use this retaining compound on bearings, bushings, sleeves, rotors, and similar slip or press-fit parts when you want the adhesive to fill small gaps, lock the assembly, and help resist vibration, fluids, and heat.
Permabond HM162 Benefits
- Medium viscosity helps the material wet metal surfaces and fill surface irregularities in close-fitting cylindrical joints.
- Fast handling on steel supports quicker assembly flow, with typical handling strength in about 5 minutes at 23 C on M10 steel.
- Very high cured strength helps improve load transfer in retained parts.
- High temperature resistance suits equipment that runs hotter than general-purpose retaining jobs.
- Chemical resistance supports service around oil, water glycol, fuel, brake fluid, and shop solvents listed by the manufacturer.
This grade is a practical choice when a shop needs to retain round metal parts without staking, welding, or machining tighter tolerances. The manufacturer states it is best suited for cylindrical parts, and the selector guide lists it as a fast-curing, high-temperature-resistant retaining compound. That makes it a good fit for motors, pumps, gearboxes, rollers, and other metal assemblies where fretting, vibration, or heat can shorten service life.
Common Applications for Permabond HM162
- Retaining bearings, bushings, and sleeves in metal housings.
- Locking rotors, pulleys, and cylindrical hubs onto shafts.
- Securing slip-fit or lightly worn metal assemblies during maintenance rebuilds.
- Supporting pump, motor, gearbox, and industrial drive repairs where a retaining compound can restore holding power.
Surface Prep and Use
Apply the product to clean, dry, grease-free metal surfaces. Permabond recommends a solvent cleaner such as acetone or isopropanol for best results, and notes that roughened surfaces can give higher bond strength than polished surfaces. Run a circumferential bead, preferably on the female component, then assemble with a twisting motion. On zinc, aluminum, and stainless steel, cure speed can slow, so an activator such as A905 or ASC10 may be worth checking when the line needs faster fixture time.
