Description
Permabond MH196 Gasket Sealant is an anaerobic material for forming a continuous seal between close-fitting metal flanges. It replaces many cut-gasket shapes with a liquid-applied film that cures after assembly when air is excluded. The cured material does not shrink, creep, or relax, helping a properly designed bolted joint retain clamp load without retightening caused by gasket compression.
How Permabond MH196 Gasket Sealant Works
The liquid fills surface irregularities across the flange face and provides an immediate low-pressure seal after assembly. Cure then develops within the confined metal interface. Direct surface-to-surface contact can improve load transmission compared with a compressible conventional gasket, while formed-in-place application reduces the need to stock many pre-cut gasket profiles.
This grade suits metal housings, covers, gear cases, pumps, and similar rigid flange assemblies. It offers chemical resistance and published high-temperature capability up to 200 degrees Celsius. Performance depends on flange material, gap, surface finish, bolt spacing, clamp load, fluid exposure, temperature cycle, and cure conditions. It does not replace a designed spacer gasket when an assembly requires a fixed compressed thickness.
Flange Preparation and Assembly
Remove old gasket material without gouging the mating faces. Clean away oil, corrosion, dust, and residue, then inspect for distortion, deep scratches, and damaged threads. Apply a continuous controlled bead inside the bolt pattern and around openings that must remain sealed. Avoid excessive material near passages where squeeze-out could enter the system.
Assemble and torque the flange according to the equipment procedure before material shifts. Keep the joint undisturbed while cure develops. Passive metals, large gaps, low temperature, or very clean surfaces can change cure speed, so confirm current instructions when those conditions apply. Test compatibility with process fluids and service temperatures before approval.
