Permabond UV683 Permabond UV683 Clear UV Adhesive is a clear, one-part acrylate made for coating, doming, and electronic encapsulation where the finished surface must remain transparent and tack-free. It cures only when exposed to suitable UV light, so operators can dispense and position the material before initiating cure. The 50 mL bottle suits controlled bench dispensing, prototype work, smart-card microchip coating, and production cells that need accurate dosing without mixing two components.

Where Permabond UV683 Clear UV Adhesive Is Used

UV683 is designed for clear protective layers rather than a hidden, opaque bond line. Its viscosity supports raised domes, component coating, and encapsulation around electronic parts while limiting uncontrolled flow. The cured material transmits more than 98 percent of visible light in the test conditions reported by the technical data, making it useful where appearance, inspection, or light transmission matters. It can also tolerate brief high-temperature processes such as wave soldering when the cured material is not heavily stressed.

Suitable workpieces need a path for curing light to reach the liquid. Transparent covers, open coating surfaces, and exposed domes are straightforward candidates. Assemblies with shadowed areas, opaque housings, or deep undercuts require a cure study before release because blocked light can leave uncured material. Thermoplastics should also be checked for chemical compatibility, especially when molding release agents may remain on the surface.

How Permabond UV683 Clear UV Adhesive Cures

Prepare surfaces so they are clean, dry, and free of grease. Remove silicone-based cleaners from glass and consider light abrasion on aluminum, copper, or copper alloys when oxide layers interfere with adhesion. Dispense directly from the bottle or through automated equipment, keep ambient-light exposure low, and place the material without trapping air that could affect the finished appearance.

Hold the part steady during exposure. The specified cure wavelength is 320 to 420 nm. Actual cure time changes with lamp output, spectral distribution, distance, coating thickness, and substrate transmission. The TDS reports fixture times from one to seven seconds across its example lamp conditions, so production settings should be established with the actual lamp and part geometry. Confirm a full, tack-free cure at the furthest and least-exposed point rather than relying only on surface appearance.

For a repeatable coating process, document dispense volume, dome diameter, exposure distance, lamp intensity, and inspection criteria. Check the first pieces for trapped air, edge pullback, haze, and incomplete cure. Recheck those conditions after a lamp change, fixture adjustment, or substrate lot change because each can alter delivered energy or wetting.
