Description
Permatex Safer Scraper is a compact plastic razor style tool for removing gasket maker, adhesive residue, gum, varnish, decals, bugs, tar, paint, and similar buildup. Permatex describes the tool as a reinforced plastic scraper designed to reduce accidental damage compared with traditional metal razors. The kit includes one scraper tool, three straight blades, and three curved blades.
Permatex Safer Scraper Applications
- Removing cured gasket maker and old adhesive residue from service parts.
- Cleaning decals, tar, bug residue, and varnish where a metal blade could mark the surface.
- Maintenance benches that need a disposable blade tool for careful scraping.
- Automotive, equipment, and shop cleanup before reassembly or inspection.
- Field kits where straight and curved plastic blades give the technician options.
This scraper is a surface preparation tool, not a chemical remover. Use the least aggressive blade angle that does the job, and test delicate surfaces before scraping a customer-facing area. Painted, polished, or soft plastics can still mark if the operator uses too much pressure or traps abrasive grit under the blade.
Permatex Safer Scraper Setup Notes
Select the straight or curved blade for the part geometry, then work slowly from the edge of the residue. Keep the blade flat enough to lift material without gouging. Wipe loose debris away often so the blade does not drag grit across the surface.

Keep replacement blades with the scraper so a dull edge is not forced into service. For gasket or adhesive removal, pair the tool with the cleaner recommended for the surface and wipe residue away as it loosens. If the part will be bonded or sealed afterward, finish with the surface preparation required by the adhesive or sealant data sheet.
