Description
CHT QGel 319 is an optically clear silicone encapsulant for assemblies that need the soft protection of a gel with more strength than a general-purpose silicone fill. It is a two-part addition-cure material with a 10:1 mix ratio by weight and a 24 hour room-temperature cure option, making it useful where a part cannot tolerate an oven cycle or where a simple hand-mix process is preferred.
Where This Encapsulant Is Used
QGel 319 fits electronic housings, lighting modules, sensors, and assemblies that need transparent potting around leads, terminals, or small components. The cured gel helps absorb vibration and mechanical shock while reducing direct moisture exposure inside the package. Compared with softer general gels, this grade is chosen when the fill needs better internal strength during handling, inspection, or later service.
The clear appearance supports visual inspection after cure. Technicians can look for bubbles, component shift, lead position, and fill level without removing the gel from the housing. That matters in assemblies where the potted section still needs final quality review or where field service may require visual checks around connectors and board edges.
Encapsulant Mixing and Cure
Mix the base and catalyst at the 10:1 weight ratio, using clean tools and a controlled batch size. Fill slowly from one side or from the lowest point of the cavity so air can rise out of the part. Published specifications show room-temperature cure over 24 hours, with heat-cure options at 100 degrees C or 150 degrees C for faster processing. The gel time at 25 degrees C is listed around 2 hours, giving more working time than fast-cure gels in the same family.
Use this grade when the drawing, qualified material list, or repair procedure calls for QGel 319 specifically. For adjacent silicone potting materials, browse casting and potting compounds. For broader silicone material information, visit CHT.
