Description
The SpecialInsert rivet nut RN06 is a deformable threaded tubular insert built for one-side installation into sheet metal, extruded aluminum, and thin-wall steel. Once set with a rivet nut tool, the shank collapses against the back face of the material and creates a permanent M6 thread where welding or a two-sided nut is not practical. Specialinsert has produced this style of insert since 1974 and helped draft the original UNI standards for the deformable rivet nut category, so the body geometry and thread tolerances follow an established spec rather than a one-off design.
Where the SpecialInsert Rivet Nut Is Used
- Sheet metal enclosures and electrical cabinets that need a removable M6 fastening point
- Aluminum extrusions and profiles in transportation and specialty vehicle builds
- Sign, display, and marine fabrication where only one side of the panel is reachable
- General metal fabrication repairs where a welded nut would distort thin material
SpecialInsert Rivet Nut Specifications
- Thread: M6, cylindrical shank body
- Installation: single-side, tool-set deformation, no access needed behind the panel
- Base material: zinc-plated steel for corrosion resistance in general shop environments
- Working range: suited to thin sheet down to roughly 0.5 mm, per the Deform-Nut family design
Setting the insert takes a standard rivet nut tool matched to the RN06 mandrel. Drill the hole to the specified diameter, seat the insert squarely in the hole, and pull the mandrel until the body deforms against the far side of the sheet. The result is a machine thread that holds a bolt or stud without a weld nut, a captive nut plate, or access to the reverse side of the panel, which matters on closed boxes, enclosures, and profiles where the back side is never reachable once assembly is complete. For fabricators running mixed-material builds, browse the rivet nuts and Deform-Nut inserts at Chemical Concepts for compatible sizes and shank styles.
