Description
Sia 1950 tab discs give operators a coarse 40-grit cut in a 5-inch, no-hole, pressure-sensitive adhesive format. The pull tab simplifies removal from a compatible pad, while the Siaspeed abrasive supports fast shaping and stripping work on filler, wood, metal, composites, solid surfaces, and automotive finishes. Each box contains 50 discs.
Coarse Sanding and Surface Shaping
The 40-grit grade is intended for early material-removal steps. It can shape filler, level repairs, remove coatings or corrosion, and prepare uneven surfaces before progressively finer grits refine the scratch pattern. Semi-friable aluminum oxide supplies an active cut, and the stearate treatment helps resist loading when working on materials that tend to pack the abrasive face.
The no-hole construction provides a continuous abrasive face and should be paired with a 5-inch pad designed for PSA discs. Clean the pad before mounting a fresh disc. Center the disc carefully, press it flat from the middle outward, and keep the tab accessible at the edge. A flat installation reduces vibration and helps the abrasive wear evenly across the full diameter.
Working With Sia 1950 Tab Discs
Use controlled tool speed and moderate pressure. Keep the sander moving with overlapping passes so the coarse grit does not create deep localized scratches or heat. Inspect the surface frequently and stop the 40-grit step once defects are removed and the scratch pattern is uniform. Follow with the grit sequence required by the coating, primer, or finishing system.
Replace the disc when cutting speed falls, loading cannot be cleared, the edge lifts, or debris creates random scratches. Remove it by the tab while the pad is cool, then clear adhesive residue before the next disc is installed. Good pad condition is important because a damaged or contaminated face can telegraph into the workpiece.
