Description
This Sia 5 inch interface pad is a soft 1/2 inch sanding accessory that sits between the sander backing plate and the abrasive disc. The cushion layer lets the disc follow curves, edges, and uneven profiles while spreading machine movement and hand pressure more evenly across the work surface.
Where an interface pad is used
Use the pad when a flat backing plate is too rigid for the shape of the part. Countertop fabricators, cabinet shops, metal finishers, and sign makers use soft pads on eased edges, molded profiles, rounded corners, and contour sanding where a hard plate would cut too aggressively at the high spots. The pad can also improve operator comfort because it buffers abrupt tool movement through its cushioning action.
How the interface pad performs
The no-hole format is intended for non-vacuum 5 inch sanding systems. Hook and loop attachment keeps pad changes quick, while the soft body increases disc flexibility without changing the abrasive grade. That makes it useful for final blending and finish refinement, especially when the same grit scratches too sharply on a hard backup pad. Replace the pad when the foam takes a set, tears, or stops holding the disc flat.
Use light, even tool pressure and let the abrasive cut at its own pace. The pad is there to improve conformity, not to force a worn disc into service. If the surface begins to ripple or the disc edge cuts into the part, step back to a firmer backup pad or change to a finer grit.
