Description
Sikaflex Primer 429 is a single-component adhesion primer for improving the bond of Sikaflex urethane sealants on selected clean, dry building substrates. It is used before sealant placement when testing, project conditions, or substrate type calls for primer support on concrete, masonry, EIFS, and wood.
Sikaflex Primer 429 Substrate Use
The primer is intended for sound surfaces such as concrete, masonry, Exterior Insulation Finish Systems, teak, mahogany, and other wood listed in Sika product literature. It is ready to use and can be applied by brush, dauber, or spray. For related surface-prep items, see Chemical Concepts primers and accelerators.
Sikaflex Primer 429 Application Control
Clean the work area first so dust, oil, standing water, and loose material do not interfere with adhesion. Shake or stir before use, apply a controlled coat, and follow the current Sika data sheet for dry time, joint design, and sealant compatibility. Primer is not a substitute for bad substrate preparation.
Field Planning Notes
Use this primer as part of a complete sealant procedure, not as a standalone coating. Crews should confirm whether the joint will see water exposure, movement, temperature swings, or porous surfaces before selecting the primer and sealant combination. On larger jobs, make a small mockup and document the chosen prep method before releasing the material to the field. Keep the container closed between pours and avoid contaminating the primer with dust, sealant, water, or used applicators during field work. That control helps crews keep primer application consistent from the first joint to the final detail.
- Promotes adhesion for compatible Sikaflex urethane sealants.
- Targets concrete, masonry, EIFS, teak, mahogany, and wood.
- Single-component liquid for brush, dauber, or spray application.
- Useful when project testing shows primer is needed before sealing.
For general sealant-primer guidance from an industry body, see the Adhesive and Sealant Council. Always check the current product data sheet and job requirements before field use.
