Putting Contact Cement to Work on the Tough Projects
Contact cement, or contact adhesive, is a neoprene rubber adhesive that creates a permanent, fast, and flexible bond. These adhesives have a wide variety of applications, but contact cement is especially useful for nonporous materials that other adhesives can’t glue together. For some surfaces, contact cement may really be the only effective choice for a bonding material.
Typically, contact cement works best on plastics, veneers, rubber, glass, metal and leather. It may also be used for gluing large surfaces such as some types of countertops in bathrooms and kitchens.
Chemical Concepts carries contact cements produced via our own Chem-Set line, and from our distribution partner, Quality Aerosols.
Contact adhesives can also be known as contact cement or special purpose adhesives that when sprayed are tacky but evaporate quickly to create a permanent bond. Made of synthetic polymers, they are also considered urethanes or polyurethane foam which have a wide variety of uses in several different markets, such as woodwork, building and apparel. Contact adhesives that come in canisters and 5 gallon buckets are used with spray guns for large surfaces or areas. Other contact adhesives come in cans for smaller applications.
