Anaerobic Threadlockers: What’s the Deal?

Anaerobic adhesives are single component adhesives designed to cure in the absence of air and in the presence of metal ions. These adhesives stay liquid until they are isolated from oxygen and in the presence of ions such as iron or steel. Anaerobic adhesives make excellent threadlockers, as the adhesive seeps down in between the threads of the bolt or screw and escapes the oxygen in the air, then reacts with the metal screw and begins to cure.
Threadlockers are anaerobic adhesives primarily used on threaded materials such as bolts and screws that cure at room temperature in the absence of air. Threadlockers completely fill the gaps between mating threads to lock and seal the threads to the substrate.
PACER ISL-71 High-Strength Threadlocker
The PACER ISL-71 high-strength threadlocker offers the strength and durability of an anaerobic, with the cure time of an instant adhesive. Unlike a traditional anaerobic, this threadlocker performs admirably on plating, stainless steel, and even plastics without using surface activators.
Features:
- Will not craze plastics
- Non-surface sensitive
- Can be pre-applied before assembly
- 1-5-minute handling time
- 80% cure in 15-30 minutes
PACER ANL-22 Low-Strength Removable Threadlocker
The PACER ANL-22 Low-Strength Removable Threadlocker is a special type of anaerobic threadlocker in that its low strength allows for disassembly with basic hand tools. This threadlocker is formulated for use in sealing, joining, and fastening metal components with small screws (under ¼” diameter).
Features:
- Oil tolerant
- High temperature resistance
- Wicking-grade threadlocking compounds
- One-year shelf life
