In 1932, American chemist Edwin Lloyd Ackerman owned a medical supply company that manufactured impression cement, parchment paper, and filling resins. The residues of filling resins and impression cement, he noticed, were nearly impossible to remove from his workers’ skin without toxic solvents, diesel, or gasoline.

One day, Ackerman stopped for lunch and peeled an orange. He noticed that somehow, the natural oils from the orange peel was beginning to dissolve the residue left on his hands. He contacted the local juicing company to acquire a larger sample of orange oil – thus began Ackerman’s journey to developing and marketing Orange Solvent, now known all over the world as Orange-Sol.

** Note: Juicing companies, while in production, are left with the oil which they would inevitably dispose because they had no need for the material.  Ackerman tested the material further and found the material environmentally safe, as well as safe to use on skin without harm. In fact, if ingested it will only give the person a bad stomach ache. This non toxic material was the result of Ackermans journey to developing and marketing Orange Solvent, and in 1976 incorporated the name Orange-Sol.
