Description
This 4 inch silicon carbide sanding disc pairs a sharp silicon carbide grain with a heavy duty E-weight paper backing, built to cut fast and hold flat on hard, brittle materials. The grain is friable, so it fractures during use to keep exposing fresh cutting edges instead of glazing over.
Where the silicon carbide sanding disc earns its keep
It is at home on stone, engineered stone, glass, solid surface, cast resin, gel coat, and composites. Silicon carbide is the grain of choice on non-ferrous and mineral surfaces because it slices cleanly rather than plowing, which leaves a finer scratch pattern for the next grit to remove. Fabricators reach for it on edge work, seam dressing, and surface refinement. It also serves metal finishing and paint prep where a clean, consistent scratch keeps the next coat or polish even.
How the silicon carbide sanding disc is built
E-weight paper is heavier and stiffer than the C and D weight backings used on lighter discs, so it resists tearing and curling under pressure and during wet sanding. The 4 inch format runs on the Gem orbital sander and on standard 4 inch random orbital sanders, and the disc is offered across a grit range so you can step from shaping cuts to finish work. Run it wet to flush swarf and keep the surface cool, which extends disc life on dense stone and glass.
