Description
Primer N is a single-component, non-CFC solvent-based surface activator used to speed anaerobic adhesive and sealant cure on passive metals, inert surfaces, and larger gaps. The clear bluish-green liquid wets threads, collars, and mating surfaces before the adhesive is applied.
Primer N Benefits
- Helps anaerobic adhesives cure faster on inactive metals and low-reactivity surfaces.
- Useful when larger gaps slow fixture time compared with close-fitting metal joints.
- Clear bluish-green color helps operators see treated areas during setup.
- Low 2 cps viscosity lets the activator wet small threads and close hardware features.
- Single-component application keeps maintenance and assembly prep straightforward.
Use this activator when shop testing or adhesive guidance calls for surface activation. Fixture speed still depends on the adhesive grade, metal, gap, temperature, cleaner residue, and amount of activator applied, so run a small process check before changing a production work instruction.
Primer N Application Checks
- Clean oil, grease, dust, and loose material from the joint before activation.
- Apply a thin, even amount to the target surface.
- Allow the solvent to flash as directed by current technical data.
- Avoid flooding the joint, since excess solvent can affect consistency.
- Keep the container closed when not in use to limit evaporation and contamination.
Safety and Technical Notes
Published data lists a heptane base, clear bluish-green color, 2 cps viscosity, and up to 30 days of on-part life under stated conditions. The material is highly flammable, so keep it away from ignition sources and use ventilation suited to solvent-based surface prep. For adhesive-primer education, see the Adhesive and Sealant Council.
Always store solvent activators away from heat, sparks, and open containers of incompatible chemicals. Train operators to mark treated parts clearly when there is a delay between activation and adhesive application.
