Description
Chem-Set P74 is a 7 mil clear polyethylene film tape coated with a permanent synthetic rubber adhesive. Fabricators use it as mitre fold tape and V-groove tape: the tape is applied across the exterior face of a V-grooved sheet and acts as the hinge and clamp while the folded 45 degree joint is glued. It offers high adhesion with quick stick on hard to hold surfaces, applies at low temperatures, and resists chemical deterioration. Made in the USA.

How Mitre Fold Tape Works
Mitre fold tape (also called V-groove tape or hinge tape) works as a temporary external hinge and clamp on a folded 45 degree joint:
- A V-groove is cut into the back of a flat sheet, nearly through to the face, leaving a thin skin.
- Tape is applied tightly across the exterior face over the future joint line. The tape becomes the hinge.
- The sheet is flipped and adhesive or epoxy is placed in the V-groove channel.
- The material folds up into a 90 degree angle and the tape holds the edges under compression while the adhesive cures.
- The result is a continuous-pattern edge with no mechanical fasteners.
The technique is used on solid surface, quartz, granite, and porcelain slabs.
Performance in Production
- 18 lb/in tensile with 80% elongation supports pulling the tape tight across a joint line and holding the fold under tension.
- 7 mil polyethylene film is highly conformable, so it follows profiled and radiused faces.
- 60 oz/in adhesion gives quick stick on hard to hold surfaces.
- Waterproof film and synthetic rubber adhesive resist chemical deterioration during glue-up and cleanup.
- Applies at low temperatures, which matters in unconditioned shops and winter installs.
- The adhesive is permanent synthetic rubber. Test on your polished and honed surfaces before running production so you know how it behaves on your material and how long it can stay on the part.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is mitre fold tape used for?
Mitre fold tape holds a V-grooved sheet together while a folded 45 degree joint is glued. It is applied across the exterior face over the joint line, acts as the hinge as the material folds to 90 degrees, and keeps the edges under compression until the adhesive cures. The finished edge has a continuous pattern and no mechanical fasteners.
Is V-groove tape the same thing as mitre fold tape?
Yes. V-groove tape, mitre fold tape, miter fold tape, and hinge tape all describe the same product used for the same process. Chem-Set P74 is sold for this application.
What size is Chem-Set P74 mitre fold tape?
P74 is supplied in 2 in (48mm) wide by 60 yd long rolls, 7 mil thick, in clear.
What adhesive is on Chem-Set P74?
A permanent synthetic rubber adhesive with 60 oz/in adhesion. Because the adhesive is permanent, test it on your polished and honed surfaces before running production.
Can P74 be used on quartz, granite, and porcelain?
The mitre fold and V-groove process is used on solid surface, quartz, granite, and porcelain slabs. Run a test on your specific material and finish first to confirm the tape performs the way you need on that surface.
Is Chem-Set P74 waterproof?
Yes. The polyethylene film is waterproof and resists chemical deterioration.
Where is Chem-Set P74 tape made?
Made in the USA.
