Description
The Gem Sander strain relief, part 507, is the molded clamp that protects the power cord where it enters the housing of the Gem 11 inch orbital sander and polisher. It is a low-cost wear part that keeps a hard-used sander running instead of heading to the bench.
What the Gem Sander strain relief does
The relief grips the cord jacket at the housing and spreads the bending load across a wider radius. That keeps the copper conductors from flexing at one sharp point right where the cord meets the tool, which is the spot that fails first on sanders that get dragged, coiled, and set down by the cord all day. A cracked or missing relief lets the cord chafe on the housing edge and eventually short.
Replacing the Gem Sander strain relief
Unplug the tool, open the housing, back the old relief out, seat the new one around the cord, and close the housing back up. It is a five-minute fix that pairs with a fresh cord or a brush change. Shops that run several Gem units keep a few on the shelf next to brushes and cords so a frayed cord never sidelines a sander mid-job. Keeping the relief, cord, and brushes together as a small kit turns a downed sander into a quick bench repair.
