Description
QSil Primer #3 is a clear silicone adhesion primer for preparing non-porous surfaces before bonding or encapsulating with compatible CHT silicone materials. The clear, one-component liquid is carried in odorless mineral spirits and is used with condensation and addition cure silicone systems.
QSil Primer #3 Benefits
- Clear primer helps operators prepare parts without adding a blue inspection tint.
- One-component format reduces measuring and mixing work at the bench.
- Suitable for non-porous surfaces when silicone adhesion needs support.
- Listed adhesion targets include metals, rubbers, polyester, and nylon.
- 24 month shelf-life data supports planned stock for production priming cells.
This primer belongs in silicone bonding work where the substrate needs extra help before potting, sealing, or encapsulation. It should be treated as a process material, not a general cleaner.
QSil Primer #3 Applications
- Silicone bonding to clean metal parts and fixtures.
- Primer prep on rubber, polyester, and nylon surfaces.
- Electronics and LED assemblies using compatible silicone encapsulants.
- Production cells that need a clear primer rather than a UV tracer version.
- Repair or prototype work where silicone adhesion must be checked before release.
Surface Preparation and Use
Clean the surface first and remove oil, release agent, dust, moisture, and loose residue. Apply a thin, even coat by the approved method and allow the carrier to flash before applying silicone. Use only enough primer to wet the surface, since excess material can leave uneven residue.
Humidity, substrate chemistry, and cure system can affect results. Run an adhesion test on the real part before approving a production process or changing from another primer.
Technical Details and Documentation
CHT lists this material as a Primer-Silicone Adhesion Aid with colorless to pale yellow appearance, liquid rheology, condensation cure profile, maximum storage temperature of 38 C, and 24 month shelf life. Review current silicone guidance from CHT Group before production use.
