Description
The Keep-Nut IM1S/P1.4-20/H5 is the shallowest press-in anchor in the 1/4-20 family. One row of crowns, 5 mm insert height, and a 5.5 mm hole depth, which is what lets it work in panels down to 8 mm where a deeper anchor would come through the back face. Stainless steel, no epoxy, no cure time.
This is the part for thin porcelain, HPL, compact laminate, and light panel work. It trades holding strength for shallow embedment, so it is the right choice when panel thickness sets the limit and not the load.

Rated pull-out is the manufacturer’s indicative laboratory average and is not binding. Minimum panel thickness varies with the receiving material; run an assembly test on an offcut for your substrate.

Tested figures on this insert: 247 lbf tensile in 10 mm HPL, 225 lbf in 12 mm Corian, and 165 lbf in 5 mm tempered glass. Those are laboratory results on specific specimens, so test in your own material before a production run.
Choosing Between Crown Heights
This is one of five heights in the 1/4-20 family, and all of them drop into the same 12 mm hole. Going up to the 2-crown more than doubles rated pull-out but needs 8.5 mm of panel. Installation needs the 1/4-20 setting tool (CCH-KNSET-1/4) and the Go/No-Go gauge (CCH-KNGAUGE). On a 5.5 mm hole the gauge matters more than usual, because there is very little depth to give.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I use the 1-crown instead of the 2-crown Keep-Nut?
When the panel is too thin for anything deeper. The 1-crown needs 8 mm of material against the 2-crown’s 8.5 mm, and its hole is 5.5 mm against 6.5 mm. On a 10 mm porcelain panel either will work and the 2-crown holds more, so the 1-crown is the answer specifically at 8 to 9 mm, or where you want the maximum material left behind the anchor.
How deep do I drill for the IM1S?
5.5 mm, at 12 mm diameter. Set your depth stop or CNC depth to match the insert height so it finishes flush. If you are drilling freehand off a polisher, set the stop collar to the anchor height plus 1/16 in, and gauge the first hole in scrap.
Can the 1-crown hold an undermount sink?
Not the part we would recommend. Rated pull-out is 202 lbf against 562 lbf on the 2-crown, and the 2-crown is what our install guides and every kit specify for sink mounting. If your panel is thin enough that the 1-crown is the only option that fits, call us before you commit, because anchor count and bowl weight both change the answer.
