Description
LORD 3170 Part A is the opaque white resin component in Parker’s two-part structural epoxy system for cryogenic bonding. This pint can is used with the matching hardener at a 1:1 mix ratio for metal, glass, reinforced plastic, ceramic, and foam assemblies that need dependable strength at very low temperatures.
LORD 3170 Part A Benefits
- Supports cryogenic bond lines where standard room-temperature epoxy systems may not be specified.
- Works in a 1:1 by-volume mix with the matching hardener, which keeps ratio control simple for bench and cartridge work.
- Milky white resin helps operators confirm full blend when mixing to a uniform light amber paste.
- Suitable for aerospace and industrial work where minimal outgassing matters.
This resin fits repair, assembly, and qualification work when engineers need the resin side of a Parker LORD adhesive system rather than a full pre-kitted package. The technical data sheet lists a two-hour working time at 75 degrees F, 24 hours to handling strength, and full cure in four days at 75 degrees F.
Common Applications for LORD 3170 Part A
- Cryogenic bonding of metal brackets, panels, and housings.
- Assembly of glass, reinforced plastic, ceramic, and foam components.
- Aerospace hardware where low outgassing is part of the material review.
- Prototype, maintenance, and low-volume production jobs using hand mix or cartridge dispensing.
Compatible Materials and Use Notes
- Use only with LORD 3170 Part B hardener in a 1:1 by-volume ratio.
- Apply to clean surfaces free of oil, grease, dust, rust, and mold release.
- Parker recommends general bond-line thickness around 0.002 to 0.003 inch for standard bonding work.
- Store unopened containers at 60 to 80 degrees F for the listed two-year shelf life.
