Description

Permabond ET5422 is a two-component, light blue adhesive that provides high-strength adhesion to many engineering materials. It is ideal for replacing welding. ET5422 also allows greater freedom of material selection with its ability to bond dissimilar materials and seals against moisture and chemicals. It can also replace mechanical fasteners, helping to keep assemblies lightweight and rattle-free without compromising the structure with holes for fasteners.

How to use ET5422 Structural Epoxy

This easy-to-use room temperature curing epoxy adhesive consists of resin and hardener. The convenient dual cartridge package allows dispensing with a handgun through static mix nozzles. In addition, bulk packaging is available for use with automatic dispensing equipment. You can achieve full cure at room temperature, but consider reducing cure time by heat curing. In addition to reducing cure time, heat curing can be used to tailor the cured properties of the adhesive. For example, the peel strength on aluminum tested to ISO4578 when cured 1 hour @ 60°C is 270 N/25mm (59 PIW). However, cured for 5 days @ 23°C, it is 320 N/25mm (70 PIW). Contact Permabond technical support for the best cure process for your application.

Permabond designed this blue adhesive for aerospace, however, manufacturers of sports equipment, automotive parts, and others have benefited from its strength for aluminum bonding and bonding many other substrates.

Typical shear strengths of substrates bonded with Permabond ET5422:

  • Aluminum: 30-40 N/mm²(4350-5800psi)
    Mild Steel: 30-38 N/mm² (4350-5510psi)
  • Stainless Steel: 20-26 N/mm² (2900-3700psi)
  • Hot Dip Galv: 18-24 N/mm² (2610-3480psi)
  • Carbon Fiber: >22 N/mm² (>3190psi) Substrate Failure
  • Epoxy GFRP: >20 N/mm² (>2900psi) Substrate Failure
  • Polyester GRP: >10 N/mm² (<1450psi) Substrate Failure
