Description
Permabond® HL138 is a high-strength anaerobic retaining compound designed for locking cylindrical assemblies such as shafts, hubs, bearings, and bushings. It cures when confined between metal parts in the absence of oxygen, forming a tough, cross-linked plastic that eliminates wear, pitting, and erosion in assembled components.
This military-grade adhesive meets MIL-SPEC MIL-R-46082B Type I and ASTM D5363 (Group 04, Class 1, Grade 1), ensuring compliance for military, aerospace, and industrial applications.
For customers seeking alternatives to Loctite® 638, 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ RT38, or Permatex® Green Retaining Compound, Permabond HL138 provides a superior, high-performance solution.

Applications
- Retaining cylindrical components in slip, press, or shrink fit assemblies
- Securing shafts, hubs, and gears in rotating machinery
- Preventing wear and fretting in high-load mechanical systems
- Enhancing clearance fit assemblies by increasing push-out force
- Oil & gas, mining, and military-grade applications
Directions for Use
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and grease-free. Use acetone or isopropanol for best results.
- For slip fit assemblies, apply HL138 to the leading edge of the pin and inside the collar.
- For press fit assemblies, apply HL138 to both components before pressing them together.
- For shrink fit assemblies, heat the collar, apply HL138 to the pin, and assemble while components are expanded.
- Allow 10 minutes for handling strength and 24 hours for full cure.
- For faster curing, use Permabond A905 or ASC10 Activator.
🔹 Note: HL138 is a high-strength retaining compound—removal may require localized heating and mechanical force. Not recommended for plastic components or oxygen-rich systems.
